This Halloween You Can Go Green

Oct 31st, 2009No Comments

Everyone is talking about going green and being green these days. It seems we as a people have finally come to realize just how exhausted our earth’s resources have become. Across the country sanitation departments have included newspaper, bottle and glass recycling as part of their regular pick up routes. That’s just the tip of the ‘green’ iceberg.

Beyond that people are now buying green products, products that are made from recycled products, that include paper towels, toilet paper, notebooks, pencils and more. We’re monitoring how much water we waste and unplugging household appliances when not in use. Going green this Halloween is as simple as buying and handing out organic chocolates, trail mix and seeds and nuts that are packaged in smaller portions, using less packaging. Less packaging, of course, means less ends up in our landfills. Auto donation has gone green too and if you are ready to donate a car to charity, you can find organizations that are taking advantage of green disposal when you donate a car. Trick Or Treat With The Red Cross This Halloween

Oct 31st, 2009No Comments

As children gear up across the nation in costume, eager to go out and fill up on sweet treats, the Red Cross reminds parents to keep safety in mind if your children will be out on their own. The best way for parents to be aware of where their children are is to plan a route out ahead of time. Though children won’t want to deviate from their costumes, it’s important to have some light colored clothing on at least some reflective tape on some part of their costume so cars can see them when it gets dark. Use face paint instead of masks so that their vision is not obstructed and most importantly emphasize that they cross only at corners to avoid oncoming cars. And when you think about cars and safety this Halloween, think about the fact that the Red Cross depends on auto donation from people across the nation to fund their vital programs. This year instead of giving out candy think about treating the Red Cross to an unwanted car you may have by donating a car to charity. Turning Back the Clocks Isn’t the Only Way to Save Energy

Oct 30th, 2009No Comments

Fall is here and it’s time to get out the rakes and start cleaning up our yards before we head in for the winter months. This weekend we will also change our clocks, signifying the end of Daylight Savings Time. Some of us will be able to enjoy an extra hour of sleep this weekend. “Fall back” or changing our clocks started when studies back in the seventies suggested that the practice saves electricity. Changing our clocks twice a year is only one way we help the environment by saving energy. At a time when many people are concerned about being green and saving the environment, many charities are eager for you to donate a car that they can use in an environmentally friendly way. When you donate a car to a charity who has gone green, your car donation will not only help the community but the earth as well. When you turn back your clocks, check the batteries in your smoke alarms. It’s also a great time to check your emergency kit or make one if you haven’t done so already. The Red Cross website has many articles on putting together an emergency preparedness kit. When you visit the Red Cross website be sure to check out all of the valuable services they do and find out about auto donation.
