Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan Organizes 5k Walk/Run for Shelter

Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan was founded in 1972 under the name of Asgard Enterprises. In 1986, Asgard joined with Goodwill Industries International to form the Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan we know today. That's when things really took off. Adapting the model used by other Goodwill Industries, Goodwill Industries of North Michigan relies heavily on donations from the public.

Whether you donate an old wardrobe, an armchair or a rusty old car, your donation will be used to help people in many different ways. Often your donated items will be sold at auction or in store to provide funding for Goodwill's many projects. Alternatively, the items could be sold at a discounted rate to a family that is perhaps less fortunate than others. This cycle of donation and support has served the charity well for many years and is a good way for the community to give something in return.

In April of 2009, Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan is sponsoring a "Run for Shelter" 5 kilometer family friendly run/walk event. The Run will take place on April 18, at 9:00 a.m in Traverse City, Michigan. All Runners are welcome. This is a good example of how charities such as Goodwill Industries can bring entire communities together for a good cause.

If you have an old car that you have been considering selling, you might want to consider donating it to Goodwill instead. Charity Dispatch can help you with the donation process and can help you to donate your car to any Goodwill charity in the country. While a "Walk/Run" is a good way to help raise money to help people, giving people transportation will also go a long way in making them successful in life. Whether the car is sold cheaply to someone who needs it or sold at auction to raise cash to help people in other ways, donating a car can help augment events like the Run for Shelter.
