Many people complain that it is difficult to get a good car at auto auctions. Either it has a cosmetic defect or has issues that affect the car’s performance. And if the car’s in a good condition, people will always fight for it tooth and nail. If you don’t have a budget, you lose out on the bidding war.
Although it would be rare for you to find a car in a perfect condition in auto auctions, you can always settle for one that meets most of your expectations. Here are some tips to help you determine if you’re getting a good deal at a car auction.
1. Does it fit your budget? This is almost always the basis if you’re getting a good deal. If the car fits perfectly your budget, then you’re in a win-win situation. Remember, though, that your budget should already include the repairs that you may have to do after acquiring the vehicle (this is almost always the case with pre-owned vehicles). Also, keep in mind that the car that you want should adjust to your budget and not the other way around. Otherwise, you’ll have the tendency to over bid and lose out money in the process.
2. Does it include a warranty? Not all auction houses practice this but it would be a good measure if they include a warranty to the car you won. This protects you from flaws that may not have been advertised when the car was just being auctioned off.
3. Is the engine in a good condition? You can always have your car repainted or detailed after you buy it. However, it is important that the car that you bought has a good-running engine. That is, of course, unless you plan on replacing it with a better one later on. But if you’re looking for a useful car, an engine in a good condition is what you should be looking for above anything else. That means it has no oil leaks, no water has seeped into the engine and the likes.
The ones listed above are just some of the many indicators that you’re getting a good deal. But the three are by far the most important if you’re looking for a functional car that fits your budget perfectly.
