Police Auto Auctions
Police auto auctions are where you will find a variety of vehicles including those that have been seized by the government. The reasons for the seizure of these vehicles vary a lot but they are usually ones that have been impounded or seized during raids.
Also called a government auto auction, this type of auction also auctions off not only seized vehicles but also government vehicles. Government agencies that want to get a new fleet usually auction off their old vehicles.
Just like the types of vehicles being auctioned off, the conditions of the vehicles also vary a lot. Some are well-maintained and are in a good condition while others are in dismal states.
Government vehicles are well-maintained in general. However, those that have been impounded are usually the ones that are in bad shape. These cars are usually the ones never redeemed by their owners because they cannot pay the fees needed to redeem them or no longer see the value in redeeming them.
But for all the problems that may come with vehicles auctioned off by the government, the good thing about them is that their starting bids are very low compared to other auction houses. The reason behind this is that the government only aims to come up with the funds to cover for the administrative costs involved in keeping the vehicle.
Keep in mind, however, that competition may be tough in cases where vehicles are in very good condition. Although they also have low starting bids, the bids rise immediately. In this case, be careful not to over bid. Believe it or not, people have the tendency to over bid (bidding beyond your budget) especially if they want the vehicle badly.
To keep this from happening, make sure to compare prices of similar vehicles first. That way, you’ll have an idea of how much you’ll pay later on and to know if you’re already bidding too much for the car.
Police auto auctions are usually held regularly so make sure to check out with your local police for their schedules. They do this often especially if there simply are too many cars and they couldn’t keep all of them already.
